New Exhibit Piece

It’s for my org’s painting exhibit at school. It’s now finished but I forgot to take a picture of the completed piece (but I’ll try to when I get my new camera). But I did took two shots of the prelim work to get you an idea…

acrylic and soft pastel painting

Yes, it’s supposed to be creepy because the exhibit’s theme revolves around blue collar workers gone evil. Hurhur. For my piece, I chose to intrepret a vengeful female sago’t gulaman* (a local cheapo drink) vendor.

I used acrylic and soft pastels because I just love mixing different mediums!

So there. Happy Tuesday/whatever day you are in right now!

Speed Sketch of the Day. This morning I decided to fire up my Artrage 2.2, played with the colors and ended up with this sketch of a big headed apple green head.  *shrugs*

An Attempt To Make A Fan Art

This is really for an anime fan art contest, but unfortunately, I didn’t finish this Ah! My Goddess character Urd on time because of school matters. So yep, this is why I was left with a semi-done painting of her face. Tsk tsk.

Anyways, according to the contest’s rules the contestants should only use traditional media on paper or board so I used acrylics, color pencils and india ink on a 1/8 illustration board.

Step 1: Urd sketch

Here’s the sketch, my own fan art intrepretation of the character, Urd. This is what Urd originally looks like in the anime series. At this stage, I’m also priming the board with gesso (because I forgot to prime it before I drew! My bad!)

Using ink to paint background

I’m now using waterproof drawing ink for the first layer of background color because I don’t like to waste my black acrylic paint. Myeah.

Base colors

Painting the first colors and painting the face first so I’ll know what colors to use for the rest of the body.

Painting using acrylic paints is a challenge because you have to work very fast for the duration of their workability are generally short. In other words, they dry too fast making blending so so hard! Pfft.

So I keep on layering and layering more paint to blend the face’s colors right. Also putting additional gesso on the hair.

DIY stay moist palette

Here is my makeshift Stay-moist palette with the paints I’m using for the skin. Acrylic paints also dry too fast on normal palettes so I make my own moisture retaining palette. It just helps in making my acrylics stay moist and usable longer.

I use color pencils for additional textures and shading. Aaaand this one’s what I have so far. I do hope I could finish this when I have time again though. Ohwell.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

I Got The Job!

I’ll get to ride an airplane and move to Bahrain!

Please excuse my lack of sketches lately, I have been very distracted with life and school. Yes, kinda defeating this blog’s purpose. But I have gathered numerous ideas to draw and now looking for time to put them down on paper (or wood, like I promised myself to do.) Hope you’re not as lazy as me now, keep on drawing! And I hope to see ye again!
